Lanchester, County Durham born wing half Jimmy Walton had started his football career with Cleator Moor prior to the First World War, joining West Stanley in 1919 after the end of the conflict, before joining Second Division Leeds United for their inaugural Football League season, making his Football League debut at Port Vale in August 1920 and missing only one of their League matches that season. However he then struggled for a first team place in the 2 subsequent seasons of his Elland Road career before moving to Bristol Rovers in the summer of 1923 after 4 goals in 71 appearances. He had a single season at Eastville, scoring once in 42 appearances, but joined Brentford a year later where he made 61 appearances over the next 2 seasons. He returned to the north east in 1926 joining Hartlepools United but made only 2 appearances for them that autumn before retiring from the professional game.
