Description

Musselburgh, East Lothian born centre half George Walker began his football career with Rosslyn Juniors in 1925 before joining Scottish League St Mirren in 1926. He had seven seasons at Love Street, scoring 9 goals in 232 appearances for The Buddies, and such was his influence on the team that he was selected for the Scotland European tour of May 1930, winning his first cap in a 2-0 victory over France in Colombes. He won his second cap against Ireland in a 0-0 draw at Windsor Park Belfast in March 1931, and two more caps in Scotland’s 1931 summer tour, playing against Austria and Switzerland in May 1931. He was also twice selected for The Scottish League, playing against The Irish League in a 3-2 defeat in Belfast in October 1931, and against the same opponents in a 4-1 win at Ibrox exactly a year later.

In June 1933 he was signed by Second Division Notts County, making his Football League debut at Hull City that August, missing only one match in his debut season, and he stayed with them for a season after they were relegated in 1935, before joining Crystal Palace in June 1936 after a single goal in 115 appearances. At Palace he was a near ever present for two seasons, but lost his place in the new year of 1939 and transferred to Watford the following July after after a single goal in 105 appearances. However he never got to appear for Watford as The Second World War forced the abandonment of peacetime football, effectively ending his career.
