Description

Audley, Staffordshire born centre half Samuel Timmis played for Audley in 1895 and joined Second Division Lincoln City in the 1896 close season. He made his Football League debut against Blackpool that September and scored 3 times in 22 appearances for The Imps during 1896-97, losing his place after a 7-0 reversal at Gainsborough Trinity in March 1897. Lincoln had a difficult season finishing bottom of the League and indeed Timmis finished on the winning side in only two of his 18 League fixtures. Timmis scored in League defeats at Leicester Fosse and Woolwich Arsenal and also in Lincoln’s FA Cup exit to Barnsley St Peter’s. He was not retained and joined Crewe Alexandra, winning the Cheshire Senior Cup with The Alex in 1899, and after his playing retirement becoming their trainer.
