Signed from St Roch’s in June 1932, left half George Thomson made his Scottish League debut for Aberdeen in a home defeat to East Stirlingshire the same September, and although this was one of only 3 appearances in his debut season, he established himself in the first team from the start of the 1933-34 season, being near ever present through to the Second World War. This included being a member of their 1935-36 team that finished third in the Scottish League, equal on points with Rangers, and of their 1937 Scottish Cup Final team that lost 2-1 to Celtic in front of over 147,000 at Hampden Park, Aberdeen’s first appearance in the Final.

Having scored 20 goals in 246 appearances for The Dons, his career was severely interrupted by the Second World War, during which he guested for Rangers and Dundee United. He joined Dunfermline Athletic in January 1946 where he had a brief spell before retirement later the same year.
