Description

Daubhill, Bolton born winger Bob Taylor began his football career playing in local junior football for Willow Dale in 1898 and Black Lane in 1899 and spent 1900-01 on the books at Everton without making a first team appearance. He joined First Division Bolton Wanderers in 1901 and made his Football League debut against Grimsby Town the same October, initially as a centre or wing half, making 20 appearances in his debut season. While Bolton were relegated to the Second Division in his second season (he converted to playing as a winger half way through the season), in 1903-04 they reached the 1904 FA Cup Final where they were beaten 1-0 by Manchester City at The Crystal Palace, with Taylor scoring once in 6 cup ties during the run.

Taylor then helped Bolton win promotion back to the First Division in 1904-05 as Second Division runners up, but back in the top flight his opportunities became increasingly limited and he joined non league Atherton in 1907 after 19 goals in 114 appearances for The Trotters. He subsequently joined Bacup in 1908 and Oswaldtwistle Rovers in 1909 before retirement.
