Swansea born centre half Billy Tabram began his football career with Cwm Mission in 1926 and played for Cwm Athletic in 1927, before joining Second Division Swansea Town in May 1928, making his Football League debut at Bradford City in February 1930. In four seasons at The Vetch Field he was never a regular first team player, making 20 appearances of which seven came within a month in the spring of 1932.

He joined Port Vale with Ken Gunn in a £400 deal in May 1933, scoring once in 36 appearances for The Valiants during a single season stay at The Old Recreation Ground, before joining Hull City in May 1934. He had three seasons of regular football at Anlaby Road, staying with the club despite their relegation to the Third Division in 1936, before joining non league South Shields in 1937 after 5 goals in 106 appearances for The Tigers. He subsequently joined Haverfordwest Athletic in 1938 and his career was ended by the advent of the Second World War.

His younger brother Phil Tabram played for Swansea Town and Merthyr Tydfil.
