Description

Padiham, Lancashire born outside left Arthur Stevenson started his football career after the end of the First World War with Accrington Stanley in 1919, before joining Darwen in 1921. He joined Third Division (North) club Wigan Borough the following summer making his Football League debut against Ashington in August 1922, scoring twice in 45 appearances for Wigan before joining First Division club Middlesbrough in October 1923.

He played 8 times for ‘Boro during their 1923-24 relegation season, after which he joined Welsh League Mid-Rhondda United in 1924, before returning to Football League action with Sheffield United in February 1925. His first team opportunities were very limited at Bramall Lane and he made only 3 senior appearances, playing once in April 1925 and twice more during 1927-28, before joining Bristol City in May 1930. He had a single season at Ashton Gate scoring once in 5 appearances before re-joining Wigan Borough in June 1931, for whom he didn’t play another first team match. He later played for non league clubs Chorley and Stalybridge Celtic.
