Description
An inside or centre forward, forename unknown, Soye was possibly the brother of Jimmy Soye, who played for Belfast Distillery, Southampton, Newcastle United and Aberdeen.
He played for Belfast Celtic in the early seasons of the 2oth century, and represented Belfast in two inter-city matches against Derry while a Celtic player, the first a 6-1 win in 1902-03, then scoring on the second occasion in March 1905 in a 4-0 victory at Brandywell. He also played in an inter-provincial match for Ulster at Dalymount Park, Dublin on 27th December 1904 in a 2-1 defeat to Leinster.
He then joined Linfield and played (and scored) in Linfield’s 1-0 win over Glentoran on 2nd September 1905 on the occasion of the competitive opening of Windsor Park, having also played in a friendly 0-0 draw against Distillery four days earlier in the first actual match to be held there.
