Bradford, Yorkshire born winger Harold Slater started his football career with Saltaire in 1920 joining Harrogate in 1921, where he played on the right wing. He signed for Second Division Hull City later in 1921 making his Football League debut at left wing against Barnsley in April 1922, his only appearance of the season, however he started the first two fixtures of the 1922-23 season at Bury and at home to Port Vale but was dropped despite a 3-0 win in the latter game and never regained his place, moving to Midland League club Castleford Town after the end of the season in the summer of 1923.

He subsequently joined fellow Midland League club Scunthorpe & Lindsey United later in 1923, and is recorded playing in four first team fixtures for The Iron that December. His career thereafter is uncertain.
