West Bromwich born wing half Frederick Sheldon started playing football for Barry Town in 1913 before the First World War, joining Southern League Swansea Town in 1919. He transferred to newly promoted Football League club Aberdare Athletic in the summer of 1921 making his debut in their inaugural League fixture against Portsmouth in August of that year, being ever present in 1923-24 and playing 6 seasons at Aberdare, scoring 11 goals in 189 games before later playing again for Barry in 1931.
