Description

Tintwistle, Derbyshire born inside forward Frank Sharp began his football career with Barton BSC after the First World War and joined Cheshire County League club Mossley in 1920, from where he was signed by First Division club Birmingham in the 1922 close season, making his Football League debut at Newcastle United that September. However he lost his place in The Blues’ first team after 5 matches at inside left that month, and was transferred to Third Division (North) club Chesterfield in March 1923 without appearing again for Birmingham’s first team.

He was a regular in The Spireites’ team until October 1923, playing both inside right and inside left, and probably due to injury (he scored in his final match in a 2-1 win over Barrow) he lost his place after 7 goals in 22 appearances and joined Birmingham & District League club Stourbridge in 1924. A move back to the Cheshire County League to join Stalybridge Celtic followed in 1925, and he then returned to Mossley in 1926, his last recorded club before his eventual retirement.
