Higham, Yorkshire born centre forward Joe Scott began his football career with Hemsworth in 1905 before joining Second Division Barnsley in 1906, making his Barnsley debut in an FA Cup 1st round replay victory over Nottingham Forest at Oakwell, a match won by 2 goals to 1, on 17th January 1907. He subsequently played on 2nd February as Barnsley knocked out Southern League Portsmouth 1-0 at Oakwell as they went on to that date the best Cup run in the club’s history. However regular centre forward Alex Hellewell was selected to lead The Tykes’ attack in the other Cup ties and Scott never made a Football League appearance before leaving the club in 1907.
