Description

Airdrie, Lanarkshire born wing half Archie Scott started his football career with Bellshill Athletic in 1923 and played for Gartsherrie Athletic in 1924 before joining hometown Scottish League Airdrieonians in 1925 at a time when they were the second strongest team in Scotland. The Diamonds finished runners up in The Scottish League for the fourth successive year in 1925-26, and in the 1927 close season he had impressed enough such that First Division club Derby County came in for his signature, despite only playing 9 times for The Diamonds. He made his Football League debut at Newcastle United in September 1927 and played 12 matches for The Rams during 1927-28. Throughout his eleven season career in English football this would be his most visible season.

In total he spent seven seasons at The Baseball Ground, and the only season he failed to make any first team appearances was during 1932-33, however he was very much a fringe player making 32 appearances between 1927 and 1934, when he was released and joined Second Division Brentford, where he again took up the mantle of a reserve teamer ready to fill in if required. He played twice as The Bees won the Second Division Championship in 1934-35, but over the next three First Division seasons he featured only a further four times more before finishing his career in 1938.
