Renfrew born inside left Robert Sang began his football career with St Anthony’s, the famous Glasgow junior club, from where he was signed by Third Division (North) club Stalybridge Celtic in July 1922. He made his Football League debut in a win over Tranmere Rovers that September but had to wait more than two months for his next opportunity in a defeat at Bradford Park Avenue. He then returned to the side in January 1923, scoring the only goal in a win at Barrow, and his final first team appearance for Stalybridge came in a 0-0 draw with Rochdale in early April. He was not retained and joined Southern League club Llanelly in the 1923 close season, returning to Scotland to play for Third Division club Peebles Rovers in 1924, his last known club.
