Raunds, Northamptonshire born wing half Walter Robinson began his football career with junior clubs Finedon in 1896 and Irthlingborough Town in 1897 before joining Second Division Leicester Fosse in July 1898, for whom he made his Football League debut against Newton Heath (now Manchester United) the same December. He soon established himself as a regular fixture in The Fossil’s first eleven, helping them to finish in third place in his debut season, narrowly missing out on promotion.

He stayed at Filbert Street until July 1905 when he joined Burton United and became their club captain, having scored 3 goals in 193 appearances for Leicester, and he was an ever present for Burton in 1905-06. In the 1907 close season, when United failed in their bid for re-election to the Football League, he joined non league Shobnall Villa after 2 goals in 72 appearances for Burton, but returned to play for Burton in the Birmingham & District League before the year end, before moving to Canada in 1909 where he played for Winnipeg Celtic.
