Motherwell, Lanarkshire born wing half Frank Roberts began his football career after the First World War with Cadzow St Anne’s in 1919 and joined Queen’s Park in 1920 without making a first team appearance for The Spiders. He soon joined Glasgow Rangers in 1921 and was loaned out to Cowdenbeath in 1921, St Johnstone in 1922 and Alloa Athletic in 1923 before joining Third Division (South) Bristol Rovers in 1924 without ever having made a first team appearance for The Gers.

He made his Football League debut for The Gas in a 1-0 win against Merthyr Town in August 1924 but played only once more, in a 2-0 home defeat to Northampton Town in January 1925, and finished his career at Ayr United, whom he joined in 1926.
