Seaham Harbour born winger George Richardson started playing football with local junior clubs Seaham Rising Star in 1910, Seaham Young Albion in 1911, Seaham Harbour in 1912 and Seaham Colliery in 1913 before joining Second Division Huddersfield Town in 1914, making his Football League debut at Nottingham Forest in January 1915 and playing 12 times before peacetime football was suspended due to the First World War. With the War over, he resumed at Leeds Road in 1919 and played in the 1920 FA Cup Final where Huddersfield lost 1-0 to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge. After 9 goals in 132 appearances for Town, Herbert Chapman sold him to Hull City in December 1923, where he never established himself as a regular first teamer, scoring twice in 46 appearances over the next 2 and a half years. He played 3 times for Hartlepools United in the late summer of 1927 before joining non league Lancaster Town in 1928.
