Description

Hebburn born left back Joe Reid played for local club Hebburn Argyle in 1914 before the First World War but after the War he joined North East League South Shields in 1918, before joining First Division Manchester City in 1919. He made his Football League debut at Sunderland that December, scoring in a 2-1 defeat, playing 3 times that season before moving to Stockport County in 1920 but at County he played only 5 times as they were relegated from the Second Division in 1920-21. He became a first team regular in 1921-22, playing 26 matches as Stockport bounced straight back winning the Third Division (North) Championship.

He continued as a regular performer for The Hatters until their relegation season of 1925-26, scoring once in 148 appearances before joining non league Carlisle United in 1926, moving to Boston Town in 1927. He returned to Football League action in 1928 with Newport County playing 2 seasons in South Wales and making 64 appearances, scoring twice, before moving to London to join Fulham in 1930. He played 7 times during the rest of 1930 before moving back to the North East with non league Annfield Plain in 1931.
