Wanstead, London born full back Bert “Jumbo” Reason began his football career with Woodford Town in 1903 before joining Second Division Clapton Orient, for whom he made his Football League debut against Bristol City in November 1905. His first team debut had actually come a month before in an FA Cup Qualifying Round tie at Felstead, and he featured sporadically in his first two seasons at Millfields Road, before breaking into the first team on a regular basis in November 1907. He scored 4 penalties in 35 appearances in 1908-09 but returned to the fringes of the first team in 1909-10, making his final 16 appearances for Clapton Orient from a total of 95 that season before leaving the club in the summer of 1910.
