Hyde, Cheshire born right back Jack Ratcliffe began his football career with Loughborough Corinthians around the turn of the century, from where he signed for First Division club Derby County in 1902, making his Football League debut against Everton in March 1903, his only first team appearance of his debut season. During four seasons at The Baseball Ground he was a fringe player, and he played 10 of his 16 matches for The Rams in 1904-05 before he joined Middlesbrough in March 1906, where he went straight into the first team and played 9 matches to help ‘Boro finish 18th in the League so avoiding relegation. with 4 wins and only one defeat in those matches. However the following season he returned to the fringe at Ayresome Park, playing just twice more that September, and his career thereafter is uncertain.
