Guide Post, Northumberland born outside left Jimmy Randall began his football career with Ashington Colliery Welfare in 1922 and played for Sleekburn Albion in 1923 and Bedlington United in 1924 before signing for Third Division (North) Ashington in June 1925, making his Football League debut against Nelson the same August, scoring a debut hat-trick in a 5-1 victory. He continued to impress in the Ashington line up and was an ever present in their 1927-28 campaign, and in October 1928 he was sold to Bradford City after 34 goals in 129 appearances. He helped The Bantams to win the Third Division (North) Championship by the end of the season and was a regular in their Second Division campaign of 1929-30, but he transferred to First Division Derby County in May 1930 after 16 goals in 63 appearances.

He spent five seasons at the Baseball Ground although he was a fringe player throughout his time there, making 16 appearances in each of 1930-31 and 1933-34, and by the time he joined Bristol City in May 1935 he had scored four times in 52 appearances. He spent a single season at Ashton Gate making 19 appearances for The Robins, before re-joining by now non league Ashington in 1936. He later finished his career in colliery football joining Crookhall Colliery Welfare in 1938.
