Description

Hereford born left back Jimmy Pugh began his senior football career after the First World War with Southern League club Brighton & Hove Albion, and played for hometown club Hereford Town and Welsh League club Bridgend Town in 1920. He joined Abertillery in 1921, from where he was signed by First Division club Manchester United in April 1922, making his Football League debut against Cardiff City the same month as United were on the eve of their relegation.

Pugh also played one Second Division match the next season against Fulham that October before joining Third Division (North) club Wrexham in August 1923 where over two seasons he made 40 appearances for The Dragons. In 1925 he moved into non league football, playing for Rhos Athletic in 1925, Bangor City and Buckley United in 1926, and finally Holywell United and Denbigh United in 1927 before his retirement from football.

NB in the photograph Pugh is on the right with Manchester United stalwart Charlie Moore.
