Brierley Hill, Staffordshire born right half Joe Pearson played for Saltley College and joined Aston Villa in August 1900, making his Football League debut at Sheffield Wednesday in November that year. Initially a fringe player, he became a regular in the Villa first team from January 1903 and he played in their FA Cup semi final defeat to eventual winners Bury at Goodison Park that March.
He was part of their victorious 1905 FA Cup Final winning team, when they beat Newcastle United 2-0 at The Crystal Palace with 2 goals from Harry Hampton. However he lost his place in the Villa line up at the beginning of March 1906, and only made 3 more appearances in the autumn of 1906 before finishing his football career, having scored 7 goals in 118 games.
