Description

Hunslet, Yorkshire born left back Richard or Dick Parkin began his football career with Earlestown Shamrocks, and played junior football for Vulcan Foundry and Newton-le-Willows in 1907 before a move to Combination club Tranmere Rovers in 1907, where he was part of the team that won the Championship in 1908. He was signed by First Division club Bury in May 1908, making his Football League club against Leicester Fosse that October, and he was a regular in The Shakers’ line up until losing his place in January 1911, making just 4 appearances for Bury in 1911-12 before re-joining Tranmere Rovers in the 1912 close season. Tranmere won the Lancashire Combination Championship in 1914, after which Parkin moved to Eccles Borough, and his career was effectively ended by the First World War.
