Description

Douglas Water, Lanarkshire born outside right John Park began his football career with Douglas Water Thistle, and after a trial with Partick Thistle he joined Hamilton Academical in 1933, spending some time on loan with Nithsdale Wanderers in 1934. In the 1936 close season he was transferred to Second Division club Newcastle United, making his Football League debut at Bradford Park Avenue that September, and although lightly used in his first season on Tyneside he became a regular during their 1937-38 campaign. Perhaps through injury he was less regular during their 1938-39 campaign, at the end of which he returned to Hamilton Academical after 12 goals in 61 matches for Newcastle United. However his career was then effectively ended by the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939.
