Description
Gateshead, County Durham born inside left Albert Oxley began his football career with local junior club Windy Nook, from where he signed for hometown Third Division (North) club Gateshead in December 1934, making his Football League debut against Southport the following month. Described as “an attacking forward who has a particular fancy for soft going”, he became a regular for Gateshead from December 1935, but his career was severely interrupted by the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, by when he had scored 25 goals in 126 matches. After the War he returned to Redheugh Park and scored once in 3 further matches during 1946-47 before his eventual retirement.
