Description

Busby, Renfrewshire born inside right Jackie Owen began his football career with Rutherglen Victoria and Leven Victoria from where he was signed by Scottish League club Hibernian in 1902, but he didn’t play for Hibs’ first eleven, going on loan to Aberdeen in December 1903 where he made his debut in a win at Lochee United on Boxing Day, playing once more for The Dons before a move to Second Division club Barnsley, where he made his Football League debut, and only appearance of his first spell, against Burslem Port Vale in March 1904.

Owen returned to Scotland to play for Greenock Morton during the 1904-05 season, but returned to Oakwell in 1905 where he scored 13 goals in 40 further matches over less than two seasons before being signed by First Division club Bolton Wanderers in December 1906. Although Bolton were relegated twice in 1908 and 1910, he helped them to regain their top flight status at the first time of asking in 1909 and 1911, scoring 8 goals as they won the Second Division Championship in 1908. However he only played 4 matches in their second promotion campaign and was released by The Trotters in 1911, when he joined non league club Chorley after 20 goals in 98 matches for Bolton. Chorley was his last known club before his eventual retirement.
