Maryhill, Glasgow born inside right Jimmy O’Gara began his senior career with Airdrieonians in 1907, spending part of 1907 on the books at Middlesbrough without making a first team appearance, before returning to Airdrie. He joined Second Division Clapton Orient in the summer of 1908 and made his only Football League appearance at Chesterfield Town in a 2-0 defeat that September.
After leaving the East London club he joined Dundee Hibernian in 1910, where he scored 5 goals in 28 appearances between August 1910 and September 1911, playing in their inaugural Scottish League match in a 3-2 defeat to Leith Athletic at Tannadice. In November 1911 he joined Southern League Portsmouth but he only played once for them the same month as an outside right before finishing with professional football.
