Larkhall, Lanarkshire born left back William Newbiggin (sometime written Newbigging) joined Motherwell in December 1921 from his hometown junior club Larkhall Thistle, and stayed with the club for three years playing in 71 first team games without scoring.
After a short stint with Royal Albert back in his native Larkhall in April 1924, he signed for St Mirren that October where he would enjoy cup success when they won the 1926 Scottish Cup Final when St Mirren beat Celtic 2-0 at Hampden Park. He left The Buddies in October 1928 after 101 matches and his career thereafter in uncertain.
