Description

Oswestry, Shropshire born full back Charlie Morris began his football career with Chirk in 1899 and joined Derby County in the 1900 close season, making his Football League debut at Manchester City the same October. By then he had already won his first cap for Wales when he played in a 5-2 defeat against Scotland in February 1900, going on to win 27 caps for his country over the next 11 years, rarely missing an international until after he won his last cap in a 3-0 defeat against England at The Den in March 1911.

At Derby he was part of their 1902 FA Cup semi final team that lost in a second replay to eventual winners Sheffield United at The City Ground, and also their 1903 which reached the Final at The Crystal Palace only to be thrashed 6-0 by Bury. He was again a losing semi-finalist in 1904, when Derby lost to Bolton Wanderers at Molineux. Despite Derby’s relegation in 1907, Morris continued as a regular in The Rams’ team until eventually losing his place in the team in September 1909, playing his last match in February 1910 before leaving The Baseball Ground after scoring twice in 312 appearances. He joined Second Division Huddersfield Town and had a single season at Leeds Road making 20 appearances, before joining Wrexham in 1911. He finished his career by re-joining Chirk in 1912.

His brothers, Jack and Robert, were both also Wales international footballers.
