Tottenham, London born left half back James Moles began his football career with Asplin Rovers from where he joined Southern League club Tottenham Hotspur in 1905, playing 4 matches for Spurs during 1905-06 before crossing London to join Southern League club Leyton in 1906. He remained at Leyton for three seasons, from where he was signed by Second Division club Birmingham in the summer of 1909, making his Football League debut at Barnsley that September. He played 33 matches for Birmingham in two seasons at St Andrews, rejoining Leyton for a further season in 1911 before finishing his career with non league club Edmonton, whom he joined in 1912.
Moles had previously served in the Army before his football career began and once the First World War began he served as a lance corporal in The Middlesex Regiment. He died of wounds at No. 9 Casualty Clearing Station, Lillers on 7th November 1915. He was buried in Lillers Communal Cemetery.
