Kilmarnock, Ayrshire born left half Davy Mitchell began his football career with hometown club Kilmarnock in the late 1880’s, from where he signed for Glasgow Rangers in 1889, making his debut in a Scottish Cup match against Pollokshaws that September. Mitchell played in Rangers’ inaugural Scottish League match against Heart of Midlothian in August 1890 and featured in their first ten seasons, and was their club captain.
Mitchell won two Scottish League championships (the shared 1890-91 title with Dumbarton and the perfect season of 1898-99), three Scottish Cups (1894, 1897 and 1898), four Glasgow Cups, two Glasgow Football Leagues and one Charity Cup. He won 5 caps for Scotland between 1890 and 1894 and represented The Scottish League twice in 1893 and 1894. However he lost his place at the start of the 1899-1900 season and only played twice that season before retiring having scored 8 goals in 170 matches for Rangers.
