Description
Glasgow born centre half Robert McGee played his football for Ards in Ireland, indeed he was a stalwart at Castlereagh Park during the 1920’s, and he was described at the time as “tall, well built and is a brainy constructive player who revels in making openings for dashing and impetuous Irish forwards”, He represented The Irish League against The League of Ireland in a 3-1 defeat at Dalymount Park, Dublin in March 1926. McGee’s greatest moment occurred in the 1927 Irish Cup Final, when, from 2-0 down against Cliftonville, McGee scored twice to help Ards to a 3-2 win to bring the Cup back to Newtonards for the first time in the club’s history.
