Cleator Moor, Cumberland born inside right Patrick McCormick began his football career with Cleator Moor Celtic in 1930 and spent 1933-34 as an amateur on the books of Preston North End without making a first team appearance for The Lambs. While in Preston he played for Dick, Kerr’s XI in 1934, and also for Lancaster Town in 1934 and Morecambe in 1935 from where he joined Third Division (North) club Oldham Athletic in 1936, making his Football League debut at Hull City in September 1936.
McCormick played three seasons for The Latics, scoring 17 goals in 46 matches, but he returned to Cumbria in 1939 to join North Eastern League club Workington, and his career was effectively ended by the outbreak of the Second World War in September that year.
