Description

Bothwell, Lanarkshire born outside right Jimmy McCombe began his football career with Bothwell Haugh and played for both Wishaw Juniors and Wishaw Thistle in the early 1930’s from where he was signed by Scottish League club Heart of Midlothian  in September 1934, making his Scottish League debut against Dunfermline Athletic in January 1935. After 2 matches for The Jambos he joined Clyde in May 1935, before joining King’s Park, now Stirling Albion, later the same year.

A move to England followed in the 1936 close season when he joined Third Division (South) club Clapton Orient, making his Football League debut against Crystal Palace the same August, scoring in a 1-1 draw. He scored 8 goals in 50 appearances over the next two seasons before joining non league Chelmsford City in 1938, subsequently playing for Dartford in 1939 before the Second World War’s outbreak in September 1939 ended his playing career.
