Glasgow born outside left Charles McCartney started his football career with Old Kilpatrick Juniors and made his name at Greenock Morton after joining them in 1925. He played for them in the late 1920’s and despite two seasons in the Second Division in 1927-28 and 1928-29, he scored 55 goals in 166 appearances for them in their five First Division seasons. He transferred to Cowdenbeath in November 1932 and played 6 matches for them. His career after Cowdeneath is uncertain.
