Staines, Surrey born right back Terry McCarthy began his football career with Hanwell Town from where he joined Third Division (South) club Queens Park Rangers in September 1933, however he failed to make the breakthrough to Rangers’ first eleven during two seasons at Loftus Road. He moved on to Swindon Town in May 1935 and made his senior debut against Luton Town in a Third Division Cup match that September, his only senior professional appearance, before joining Cheltenham Town in the summer of 1936. He finally joined Kent League club Tunbridge Wells Rangers in 1937, his final recorded professional club.
