Description

Thringstone, Leicestershire born centre half Bob Maloney began his football career with junior teams Thringstone House and Thrapston, from where he joined Peterborough & Fletton United in 1923, playing for Shepshed Albion in 1924. In 1925 he joined Third Division (North) club Walsall, making his Football League debut against New Brighton that October, one of 3 matches he played in for The Saddlers that month before a return to Peterborough & Fletton United before the year was out.

In 1926 Maloney signed for Third Division (South) club Northampton Town where he immediately established himself as a regular in their line up and featured for six seasons until losing his place at the start of their 1931-32 campaign, during which he only played 8 matches before leaving to join Irish League club Shelbourne in the 1932 close season after 4 goals in 194 matches for The Cobblers. He had a single season in Ireland before joining the 1930’s stampede to the French League, where he played for Racing Club Calais in 1933 before returning to Irish League football with Dundalk in 1937, his last recorded club before his eventual retirement.
