Crewe, Cheshire born full back (he played both sides) Frank Lyon began his football career with Lancashire League club Stockport County in 1897 from where he joined hometown Combination club Crewe Alexandra in 1900. He spent 1901-02 on the books of First Division club Stoke but didn’t get into their first eleven before returning to Crewe, and in 1902 he joined Southern League club Watford for a season, moving to Queen’s Park Rangers a year later where he spent four seasons with the Loftus Road club. His reputation established, he was bought by First Division club Chelsea in April 1907, making his Football League debut at Newcastle United that September, but he managed just six appearances for The Pensioners across the 1907-08 campaign before rejoining Crewe Alexandra in 1908, his last recorded club.
