Description

Duns, Berwickshire born centre half Tom Lockie played junior football for Duns in 1926, before joining Glasgow Rangers in 1927. Essentially a reserve at Ibrox, he made his Scottish League debut in April 1930 at Cowdenbeath, playing a week later at Airdrieonians, both games being lost. In 1931 he joined Leith Athletic, before moving south to join Third Division (North) Barnsley in the 1932 close season, making his Football League debut against Mansfield Town that October. He stayed a single season at Oakwell, scoring once in 15 appearances, before joining York City, where again he spent a single season, 1933-34, scoring once in 32 appearances. He then moved to Accrington Stanley making 38 appearances in 1934-35, before finally moving to Mansfield Town, where he scored once in 17 appearances during 1935-36 before his playing retirement.

He returned to York City in 1936 as reserve team coach and was promoted to first team trainer in 1937. He held this role for 23 years until becoming the manager in September 1954 until March 1956, and again in July 1960, a position which he held until October 1967.
