Derby born right or centre half George Lloyd began his senior football career with Second Division Burton Swifts in January 1899, making his Football League debut at Luton Town in April 1899, one of two appearances he made before the end of the season. He joined Derby County in January 1900 but was a fringe player, making 6 appearances in their 1901-02 campaign, playing a further 6 matches the next season. In the 1903 close season he joined Southern League club New Brompton (now Gillingham) where he was a mainstay for five years, making 136 appearances, but his career after he left the Kent club in 1908 is uncertain.
