Description

Newport, Gwent born left half Jack “Ginger” Lewis played for Somerton Park Juniors in 1920, before joining Newport County in 1922, making his Football League debut against Gillingham that December. After 27 appearances he was signed by First Division Cardiff City in 1924, but made only one first team appearance in a 4-1 defeat at Bury in May 1925. However Lewis was called into the Wales squad for the British Home Championship match against Scotland at Ninian Park on 31st October 1925, which ended in a 3-0 defeat, in what would be his only cap for his country.

He joined Tranmere Rovers in March 1926 and rarely missed a game over the next 7 years, although having lost his place at the start of the 1933-34 season he only made 3 more appearances before retirement, having scored 10 goals in 288 appearances for Tranmere.
