Description

Wednesbury, Staffordshire born full back Frank Lester began his football career with Fallings Heath, from where he joined First Division Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1894, making his Football League debut, and only Wolves appearance, at Sheffield Wednesday that November. He soon joined Walsall Unity and in the 1895 close season he was signed by First Division Small Heath (now Birmingham City), where in his first season he played in 21 matches during the campaign, and then 4 Test matches, which condemned them to relegation.

Lester stayed at Muntz Street for six seasons in all, however after losing his place in November 1897 he was a fringe player for the last three of them, and after Small Heath’s promotion back to the top flight as Second Division runners up in 1901, a campaign in which he played 7 matches, he left the club to join Birmingham & District League club Walsall, who had just lost their League status, after 75 appearances for Small Heath.
