Description

Kilwinning born full back George Lennon joined Third Lanark from Kilwinning Rangers in 1911 and had 2 spells with The Warriors, spending a year with Abercorn in between in 1912. He was loaned to Ayr United in 1915 and eventually joined St Mirren in 1919 before moving to new Third Division (South) club Luton Town in the summer of 1920. He made his debut in Luton’s inaugural Football League match, a nasty drubbing by Swindon Town in August 1920, but things improved for Luton from there and in every one of his 3 seasons at Kenilworth Road they finished top half. After 115 appearances for The Hatters he joined First Division Stoke in March 1923, but his arrival which saw 2 games that spring against Tottenham Hotspur, couldn’t prevent their relegation. The following season he only played once more and he joined non league Weymouth in the summer of 1924. He spent 1925-26 at Eastville, but only played 4 times for Bristol Rovers’ first eleven, before returning to Scotland in 1926 with Airdrieonians. A year later he joined non league Colwyn Bay.
