Cullybackey, Antrim born wing half Billy Leitch started playing in Scotland joining Port Glasgow Athletic from Greenock Overton in 1914 and moved a year later to Partick Thistle. In 1917 he was loaned to Belfast Distillery, before returning to Partick. He joined Second Division Coventry City in 1920, making his debut against West Ham United that October, and although he played 21 times that season, his opportunities became occasional over the next 2 seasons, such that when he joined Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic in the summer of 1923 he had scored 2 goals for Coventry in only 29 appearances. In his first two seasons at Bournemouth he was nearly ever present, but he lost his place in October 1925 and only played twice during 1926, and having scored a single goal in 82 Bournemouth appearances, he returned to Scotland and joined non league Helensburgh in 1927.
