Description

Earlestown, Lancashire born Jimmy Lawrence had been with his local boys club prior to World War One, and joined First Division Aston Villa after World War One, making Football League debut against Liverpool in September 1919 and playing 14 times through to the season end.  Jimmy was the third player Coventry manager (and ex Villa stalwart) Albert Evans signed from Villa before the start of the season and he made his debut against Rotherham as a left back. He was consistent and played nearly every match during his first 3 seasons missing the occasional game because of illness rather than injuries.  He was first choice left back until he picked up an injury at home to Clapton Orient in April 1923, he never quite recovered and hung up his boots in 1925 after scoring twice in 134 games for Coventry.
