Description

Lewisham, London born centre forward Bill Langley started his football career with Tunbridge Wells Rangers in 1936 before signing for First Division Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1937, making his Football League debut against Brentford in January 1938, scoring in a 2-1 victory at Molineux. He scored 3 times in 7 appearances over an eight week period as Wolves came runners up in the League Championship.

However he was sold to Third Division (South) club Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic in the 1938 close season and scored 15 goals in 24 appearances for The Cherries in 1938-39, being the club’s top scorer for the season, including a hat-trick in a 4-2 win over Queen’s Park Rangers in January 1939, but an injury in February curtailed his season. Later that year he joined non league Yeovil & Petters United, but the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939 effectively ended his senior football career, and after the conflict he played for Poole Town in 1945, his last recorded club before his eventual retirement.
