Rossendale, Lancashire born inside right George Lamberton began his football career with Tonge in 1897 and played for Berry’s Association from 1898 before First Division club Bury in May 1899, making his Football League debut at Notts County in March 1902, scoring in a 2-1 defeat. Never a regular for Bury, he scored 7 goals in 23 matches for The Shakers before a move to Southern League club Luton Town in 1904, where he spent a season before a return to Football League action with newly elected Second Division club Clapton Orient in May 1905. A regular during that season, he scored 7 goals in 32 matches for The O’s before joining Southern League club Norwich City in 1906. He then returned to Bury in 1907 but didn’t make their first eleven, joining non league club Haslingden in 1908, also playing for Colne the same year. He later played for both Hyde and Chorley in 1909, his last recorded clubs.
