Wishaw, Lanarkshire born right back Jimmy Kirk began his football career with Blantyre Victoria from where he joined Scottish First Division club Clyde in 1934, soon establishing himself as their first choice right back. He was part of the 1939 Scottish Cup winning team that beat Motherwell 4-0 at Hampden Park but soon thereafter his career was curtailed by the outbreak of the Second World War, during which he was selected for The Scottish League in an unofficial match against a League of Ireland XI in April 1940. Clyde held his registration until the end of the War but he didn’t play again in its aftermath having scored twice in 127 matches for The Bully Wee.
