Glasgow born inside right Johnny Kidd began his career with Glasgow Ashfield in 1902 and played for Maryhill in 1903, from where he signed for Scottish League club Third Lanark in 1904, the first of four spells at Caithkin Park. He joined Broxburn Shamrock in 1905, before a brief return to Third Lanark and a spell at Ayr Parkhouse later the same year. After a further return to Third Lanark in 1906 he signed for Southern League club Swindon Town in June 1906 and spent two seasons at The County Ground, scoring 7 goals in 46 matches for The Robins before a final return to Caithkin Park in 1908.
Kidd moved to St Johnstone in 1910 from where he signed for Second Division club Birmingham the same November, making his Football League debut a few days later against Wolverhampton Wanderers. He scored 8 goals in 44 matches for The Blues over two seasons before joining Brierley Hill Alliance in 1912, his last known club before his eventual retirement.
